Retainers
Retainers are often used when the brace is removed. Retainers insure that newly aligned teeth remain in their new position. Depending on the requirements of the client, our orthodontic experts may recommend a form of removable retainer or fixed retainer that is bonded behind the client’s teeth.
Our experts also provide clients with advice on how best to maintain and look after their retainer.
Retainer Types
Retainers are the only way to ensure that teeth do not move following fixed orthodontic treatment.
Clear Removable Retainers: Custom made clear removable retainers provide retention for the upper and lower teeth following fixed orthodontics. We do advise that these retainers are worn every night for as long as the patient would like their teeth to stay straight.
Fixed Retainers This type of retainer is bonded to the lingual surface of the teeth following fixed orthodontics. It will not affect the patient’s speech. This is worn in conjunction with removable retainers.
Hawley / Spring Retainer A traditional, durable, removable retainer which is made up of wire and acrylic. Designed to hold the upper and lower teeth in situ following fixed orthodontics.
Removable Appliances Removable appliances can be used to carry out simple movements of teeth and overbite correction. They can be removed for cleaning.
